HIGH POWER RIFLE TEAMS
Despite the fact that MVGC has no rifle range we usually manage to field at least 2 teams to the annual Eastern Mass Rifle League. This is a series of 3 matches held each spring at The Woburn Sportsman's Club, Middlesex Turnpike in Burlington, MA. All MVGC members are welcome to shoot on these teams.
Matches are held the last Saturday of April and the first 2 Saturday's of May each year.
Teams consist of 6 persons per team. Each team is allowed 2 hrs 12 min to complete the course of fire.
Team Captains are currently Lenny Cafarelli for the "A" team and Rick Adreani for the "B" team.
Matches consist of 22 rounds (2 "sighter's" and 20 shots for record) fired slow fire at 200 yds offhand only (standing position)
Any center fire rifle may be used. AR-15's M1 Garand's and M1A's dominate the line, though many shoot bolt action rifles.
Iron sights only (scopes allowed 60 yrs old or older)
No slings are allowed.
Shooting coats and gloves are allowed.
Each team needs to provide a target puller (person). Young people aged 13-16 usually make the best pullers. Younger people are generally too short to reach the carriers and too weak to pull against the counter weights. Each shooter pays $3.00 per match for the puller which is matched by the match organizers. The youngsters make $36.00 for less than 2 1/2 hrs work.
