NEWS AND UPDATES

A work party was held at the club on Sat Nov 8th. About 15 club officers and members showed up to help put up 1/4" steel plates on the walls from 21 ft mark to the backstop. Jack Kelly and Jim Limardo have researched a new type of sound deadening and it has been ordered. This will be installed from the ports to the 21 ft mark. Many thanks to the volunteers that showed up to help install the very heavy (300 lbs each) sheets of steel!

To all MVGC members:

Many of you don't realize that the staff that runs your club is completely volunteer. No Officers are paid for their efforts and many put in quite  a serious amount of time. Hence, there will usually not be anyone there to help you with problems during the day, we're all off working. The best time to reach a live body is on Wed.evenings from about 7-9 pm. For new membership questions ask for Bob Terrell or Rich Sica. For Pistol School ask for John Barry. For problems with your membership billing or your key card ask for Dave Joy. Remember dues bills for 2008 went out in early Sept. If your key card isn't working first make sure you paid your dues!

It is with great sadness that we note the passing of Gerry Sweeney. Gerry passed away last summer and unfortunately we didn't find out until recently. Gerry was a long time member and was very active in the club for years, he will be missed by us all.

Click here for some pictures from this year's Turkey Shoot. We had a great turnout, I believe there were 15 relays sold! At 75 lucky targets per relay, that's a LOT of targets! Jim and Dolly did their usual great job selling and scoring all those targets and Susanna's cupcakes and Thanksgiving coloring pictures were a big hit with the youngsters! Thanks to all the folks that showed up to help out!

The annual Turkey Shoot will be held on Sunday Nov 18th. from 12-4 pm. Shooting is at lucky targets and winners get a Stop&Shop gift certificate. It's a great opportunity to bring the kids down and let them try a few shots!

Dave Thompson has started up the action shooting on Friday nites. Just come on down or contact Dave at webmaster@smithandwessonforums.com

Dues bills went out Sept 1st, if you haven't recieved your contact Dave Joy at clerk.mvgc@comcast.net.

Dues bills are going out soon. Most notable is a dues increase necessitated by increases in our costs of operating the club. We have endeavored to keep the the costs down, but recent increases in taxes, energy and insurance have caused the board to reluctantly approve this increase, the first dues increase in about 10 years! Our desire is to provide a safe, clean and comfortable place to shoot, available to our members 24 hrs a day, seven days a week. At about $2.00 a week, we believe this is still a great deal!

MVGC is once again shooting in the Greater Boston Pistol League (GBPL). Any one interested in shooting on a team should contact Sam Farrington at the club.

The Junior Rifle program starts up again on the 4th Monday in Sept. All club member's children age 12 and over that have the appropriate attitude to safely handle firearms are welcomed. The team welcomes both boys and girls, parental permission is required, parental involvement is encouraged! Contact Dave Wheeler at the club for further information.

Dave Thompson is trying to get pins and plates up and running again but he needs some help. Anyone interested in helping see Dave at the club on Tues nites.

2007 Election Results:

  • Vice President: Don Gianquitto

  • Treasurer: Dave Bush

  • Directors: Rick Adreani, John Barry, Jim Bruno, Joe Garbarino, Jim Limardo

Joe Renzullo and Frank Vassallo  have left the Board of Directors. The Officers and membership would like to thank both of them for their many years of service to the club!

Jim Bruno agreed not to seek re-election as Treasurer to make room for Dave Bush to run as Treasurer. Dave's accounting background will serve the club well. Jim, in turn, ran a successful  campaign to become a Director. Thanks to Jim for his efforts as Treasurer, though not quite his forte, Jim worked hard at keeping the club's finances.

Don Gianquitto won re-election as the club's Vice President. A long time MVGC member, Don was instrumental in the building of the second range and gives generously of his time and expertise at the club. Congratulations Don!

Long time board members Rick Adreani, John Barry and Jim Limardo also won re-election. Rick and John are both long time club members and instructors in the club's pistol school. Jim has been a club member and officer for a great many years. Most members have had the pleasant experience of meeting Jim and his warm, friendly smile. Jim is the man that keeps those ports on the range up and running. Congratulations to all three! ______________________________
