NEWS AND UPDATES

Annual Elections

Annual elections were held in March. All incumbents ran unopposed. Dave Watson decided not to run for re-election and Jeff Hirtle was the only nominee. Congratulations to Jeff and a big thank you to Dave Watson for his service to our club!

Unsafe gun handling has been observed lately. DO NOT handle a loaded gun anywhere in the club except in a shooting port. Loading and unloading are only allowed in a shooting port. Make sure all actions or cylinders are open when carrying a gun around the club. Watch where your gun's muzzle is pointed at all times, even in the range room or classroom!! We will be watching you and strictly enforcing these rules. Your membership could be in jeopardy if you are observed violating these rules!!

ATTENTION PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS

The procedure for joining the club has changed recently. Click here to read about the changes and new procedure.

Work Party /Club BBQ Sat Oct 17

About 30 members showed up for the work party and accomplished a lot. The big trailer in the back was turned around (many thanks to Sica's Towing for the use of the trucks!). The baffles and steel downrange were painted. New sound insulation was installed on the small range. The new cabinets on the range were painted and a new counter fitted. The new compressor was wired in from the main panel and the ready room table was recovered.

After the work party we pigged out on Brisket, ribs, chili, grilled shrimp, some killer tips (thanks Jay!) and great chicken wings (thanks Kathy!) etc!!! It was fun to hang out with some great people and get so much done. Thanks to all that helped out!

GBPL

GBPL (Greater Boston Pistol League) is starting up again soon. Sam Farrington is once again generously donating his time to run the program. Info on GBPL can be had by clicking on the GBPL League button to the left. New email addy for the clubs GBPL program is gbpl@mvgunclub.com

PPC and Pins/Plates/IDPA will be starting up with a PPC Match on Oct 9 at 7pm. Pins/Plates/IDPA on the 4th Fridays each month. Click on the PPC link in the menu bar to the left for more info on PPC.

Dues bills are a little late going out this year. They will go in the mail Thurs Sept 25, due dates have been adjusted accordingly.

GOAL representative Jim Wallace will be at the club for the June 4th Membership Meeting. This meeting will start early (7pm) to allow Jim time to address the club on gun owners issues within the state of Mass and GOAL's efforts to help protect our rights.

GOAL is our only real representative on a state level. Leadership there has changed from the "old days". We all need to band together or our days as gun owners are numbered!

All MVGC members are encouraged to attend this meeting. Club Officers will be asking you personally to attend if we run into you at the club, it is THAT important!

Thanks to Sam Farrington for arranging this event!

The award was presented to this years deserving recipient at the Annual Membership Meeting. Congratulations to Bob Terrell, you deserve this award! Click here to read about the award and see photos

Elections

Annual Elections were at the club on Thurs March 5th. Only one seat was contested, former director John Barry moved up to Vice President and his vacated seat on the board was open. Congratulations to our newest Director, Susanna Cortese! Click here for 2009 election results and pics.

High Power

Some members have been shooting High Power matches at Woburn Sportsman's on Sunday mornings in preparation for the Eastern Mass Rifle League which starts in April. Shooting is 200 yds from their indoor shooting ports, cost is $5.00. Email the clerk for more info if interested. clerk.mvgc@comcast.net

Winter matches have begun again. MVGC will host a PPC match on the second Friday of each month and a steel or pin match on the fourth Friday of each month, both at 7pm start time. A PPC match was held Friday 1-16 and we had 20 people shoot on 3 relays. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Click here for the match results.

Range updates have been continuing. Jim and Sam have just about finished installing the rest of the sound deadening material behind the shooting line. A new tile floor has been installed in front of the shooting line and special heavy duty mats have been placed under the 21 and 33 ft  target stops to prevent damage to the new floor from splatter. 2 new cabinets have been built on the range to hold targets, ear muffs, etc for the Juniors, Bullseye, Pistol School and Action shooters. There is nothing of substantial value in these cabinets! Certainly nothing worth losing your membership over or being charged for theft and losing your permit. Remember, cameras record all activity on the ranges!

A work party was held at the club on Sat Nov 8th. About 15 club officers and members showed up to help put up 1/4" steel plates on the walls from 21 ft mark to the backstop. Jack Kelly and Jim Limardo have researched a new type of sound deadening and it has been ordered. This will be installed from the ports to the 21 ft mark. Many thanks to the volunteers that showed up to help install the very heavy (300 lbs each) sheets of steel!

Added on 1-24-08, a section of printable targets for the personal use of our members. Click here to go to the targets page.

To all MVGC members:

Many of you don't realize that the staff that runs your club is completely volunteer. No Officers are paid for their efforts and many put in quite  a serious amount of time. Hence, there will usually not be anyone there to help you with problems during the day, we're all off working. The best time to reach a live body is on Wed.evenings from about 7-9 pm. For new membership questions ask for Bob Terrell or Rich Sica. For Pistol School ask for John Barry. For problems with your membership billing or your key card ask for Dave Joy. Remember dues bills for 2008 went out in early Sept. If your key card isn't working first make sure you paid your dues!

It is with great sadness that we note the passing of Gerry Sweeney. Gerry passed away last summer and unfortunately we didn't find out until recently. Gerry was a long time member and was very active in the club for years, he will be missed by us all.

Click here for some pictures from this year's Turkey Shoot. We had a great turnout, I believe there were 15 relays sold! At 75 lucky targets per relay, that's a LOT of targets! Jim and Dolly did their usual great job selling and scoring all those targets and Susanna's cupcakes and Thanksgiving coloring pictures were a big hit with the youngsters! Thanks to all the folks that showed up to help out!
