PPC (POLICE PISTOL COMBAT) MATCHES

Originally designed for Police training and matches for Police Officers to gauge their competence against other officers, PPC has become popular amongst civilians as well, even though civilians are barred from the National Matches. PPC involves 5 stages of fire on 2 different sizes of targets from 6 different positions using both hands.

Equipment needed:

1) Eye and ear protection

2) A revolver (6 round minimum cylinder size) or semi auto firing a .32 or larger bullet. (.32 Spec. .32 ACP, 9mm, .38 special, etc up to .500). In consideration of the other shooters, please use low power loads (.38 spec in .357 mag, .44 spec in .44mag, etc.)

3) 3 magazines or speedloaders

4) A belt and belt mounted holster. No inside the pants holsters, no rearward facing or crossdraw holsters. A basic Uncle Mikes nylon holster that fits your gun is fine, gun must point downward when holstered!

5) A magazine pouch or speedloader holder is nice to have but not necessary

6) 60 rounds of ammo for your gun. Low power, semi wadcutter or wadcutter is best, but ball will work fine.

Basic Rules:

1) Eye and ear protection MUST be worn at all times when shooting is in progress.

2) Only 6 rounds may be loaded at a time

3) All stages begin with gun holstered, safety on (autos) and hands in the surrender position

4) Muzzles MUST be pointed downrange at all times. This applies whether moving from position to position or reloading.

5) Upon completion of stage remove empty shells (revolvers), remove magazine (autos). Leave cylinders open, slides locked back until a range officer give you the OK then close the cylinder or slide and place the firearm in your holster. DO NOT handle the firearm again until you are told to do so.

Range Commands:

1) "Shooters to the line" Move to your assigned port with your holstered firearm, magazines or speedloaders. You may arrange barricades, shooting mats, etc at this time.

2) "With 6 rounds load" Load a magazine (6 rounds only!) or load 6 rounds into your revolver. Place the firearm on safe (auto) and holster the firearm.

3) "Read on the right, ready on the left" Raise your hands to the surrender position. If you are not ready to proceed raise your hand and shout "shooter not ready". A range officer will come to your aid to see why you are not ready. If no shooter says "not ready" the commands will proceed.

4) Approx 3 seconds after the command a buzzer will sound. This your OK to draw and fire the course of fire.

5) After the appropriate amount of time for the stage has passed another buzzer will sound. STOP shooting, even if you have rounds left. Any shots fired after the buzzer will result in the same number of the highest value shots on your target being deducted. Continuing to fire may result in expulsion from the match.

6) Remove any remaining ammo from your firearm and leave the slide locked back or cylinder open. A range officer will inspect your firearm and then give the OK to holster it.
